L.League 1996

Like the 1995 season, the 1996 L.League season was squeezed into a much shorter period, this time due to the Olympic Games, held in Atlanta in July and August. The season ran from August 18th until December 22nd.


In the tables below, scorelines in parentheses indicate the results of penalty shoot-outs. Games decided as a result of a V-Goal are indicated by vg. In the league tables, the 90 mins column indicates the number of victories achieved in the normal ninety minute period.

The final deciding match for the championship was due to be played on December 29th, 1996. Since Nikko Securities Dream Ladies won both stages, this match was unnecessary and thus Nikko Securities won their first league title.

The overall final standings are shown below. Suzuyo are ranked ahead of Matsushita as a result of having won more games in the regulation ninety minutes.

JLSL Challenge League 1995

The JLSL Challenge League was held between December 1995 and February 1996, with the winner going forward to meet the side finishing bottom in that season's L.League. However, due to TOKYO SHiDAX LSC's withdrawal from the L.League, OKI Lady Thunders were automatically promoted and bottom side Takarazuka Bunnys Ladies retained their place in the league. Upon promotion OKI Lady Thunders changed their name to OKI FC Winds.
